Enabling optimum performance right from the start

Reduce cost and time and increase efficiency for small to complex projects

Airspace

Setting up a new airspace system or optimising existing airspace structures requires profound operational experience. Benefit from the intense and focussed input of the PVS core stakeholder team right from the start of your project. To support and assist you in these initiatives, PVS offers the following:

Support in (re-) planning of navigation procedures, traffic flows and airspace geometries, for example providing in-depth ATM expertise or predictions of aircraft behaviour and flight performance.

We evaluate the needs of the customer for possible improvements by collecting movement data, ATCO/airport experience and known or expected baseline issues. After thorough analysis of this input, we develop options for change in a multi-stakeholder approach and then create different specific proposals for change with or without a change in ConOps.

Support in development and enhancement of concepts of operations. Our expertise is based on worldwide operations and best practices as well as specific local requirements and regulations. This ensures the highest possible standards of flight safety, optimises traffic flow management and maintains an acceptable ATCO workload at increased traffic volume.

Procedure

To kick-start the design process, early involvement of the airspace user view is crucial. To optimise a project’s cost-efficiency, it is essential to get things right at the start. If targets have not been met, the entire design process and the subsequent validation must be repeated. The risk of iteration can be substantially reduced by taking advantage of one, or a combination, of the following services:

Depending on the focus of the procedure design initiative, specific targets must be met in order to finish a design project successfully. In the simplest case, a procedure allowing safe operation during application of standard operating procedures and fulfilling ICAO design criteria is desired. In some cases, deviations from ICAO criteria are envisaged: this requires specific analysis and flight validation.

This service supports the procedure designer in developing an instrument flight procedure that meets the above targets. To ensure the desired aircraft behaviour, waypoint definition as well as ARINC 424 Path & Terminators will be analysed in view of the functionalities of modern flight management systems.

An additional requirement of proper instrument flight procedure design may be the generation of a certain aircraft noise contour-layer, which largely depends on the 3D flight path of the aircraft.

In particular—but not exclusively—with regard to performance based navigation procedures, the lateral flight tracks produced while changing track in a turn will in many cases not be exactly equal to the path that is geometrically defined by the procedure design.

PVS offers a flight track prediction service that models the tracks resulting from a procedure coding during everyday operation. We provide design support for defining procedure coding in order to meet the targeted flight track results.

The CO2 footprint of traffic in general but that of aviation in particular is now a major consideration in state policy and public perception of transportation. Reduced fuel consumption also reduces operating costs for airlines.

During the early phase of the design process, PVS offers a support service that is dedicated to optimisation measures, leading to reduced CO2 emissions.

Here, a key element is to deliver an intelligent concept that is acceptable to all relevant stakeholders to enable and facilitate later implementation.

RNP VPT (also known as RNAV Visual in some countries) are procedures with a series of waypoints and altitude constraints, as well as specific guidance on how to turn and descend for landing. These procedures may start in instrument flight conditions, and from a certain point visual flight conditions are required. RNP VPT procedures are designed to provide a safe and efficient option for aircraft operations to shorten routes, even in areas with challenging terrain, or unfavourable weather conditions. ICAO describes these types of procedure in Circular 359 as RNP VPT. With our vast experience in these procedures, PVS supports you in designing, validating and implementing these procedures quickly and efficiently.

PVS collects, analyses and enriches information gathered from simulator tracks, using it to create a one-of-a-kind, priceless repository of insights. Customers rely on our industry-leading hardware and analytic staff to affordably drive decision-making; from setting internal strategic direction to building the best flight procedure possible.
